“A Great Feast of Languages” – Translating Shakespeare Conference
Cologne/Germany, 4 – 8 June 2016
The British Council, Writers’ Centre Norwich, BCLT and Shakespeare’s Globe Education present a week of translation workshop sessions where participants from Germany, Poland and Romania focus on a consensus translation of one particular text from Shakespeare. With the help of a Shakespeare specialist and an actor, general themes will emerge around the translation of Shakespeare into different languages and cultures. More information in the Open Call document below.
Profile of Participants
The workshop is targeted at early- to mid-career literary and/or theatre translators. We would welcome a mix of levels of skill and backgrounds. Although the focus of the workshop is on translating Shakespeare, we will be using short extracts from three plays as a starting point for discussing challenges around literary translation and theatre translation more broadly.
Applicants will be asked to submit:
- A simple application form (find it below) with basic details
- Their area of interest, their current involvement with literary and/or theatre translation, why they want to join the workshop and what they will contribute
- CV/Résumé, including professional and academic qualifications
