Date
Monday 28 March 2022 -
10:00 to 20:00

The two-part workshop with dancers of the UK’s Candoco Dance Company is an opportunity for participants with different life and professional experience to get involved in a practical and creative approach to movement and dance.

The first part of the workshop will be an opportunity to connect with ourselves, our bodies and each other, and to establish an accessible and tailored way of working together. Disabled dancers Joel Brown and Anna Seymour will guide participants through creative searches, and will also support the incarnation and manifestation of the established scenario. Both of these activities will refer to the current repertoire of the British ensemble and draw on the well-established Candoco integration practice.

In the second part of the workshop, participants will delve a little deeper into movement practices and consider how they can support and enrich their own movement or professional practice. There will also be an opportunity to hear from the dancers about their direct experiences and work strategies.

The workshop is suitable for disabled and non-disabled dance enthusiasts and professionals. Prior dance experience is not necessary, but it is important to attend both parts of the workshop.

Anna is also the co-founder of The Delta Project, a Melbourne-based dance collective of deaf and hearing performers.

Anna worked as a producer assistant at the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2019 and is regularly involved as a panel presenter and teacher of movement workshops in Deaf and Artistic environments.

Anna describes herself as follows: Anna has dark brown, curly hair reaching down to her shoulders, with bangs, brown eyes, fair skin with freckles, a nose ring, and a slight build.

▪ JOEL BROWN

Joel Brown is a dancer, singer and songwriter originally from the United States. He joined Candoco in 2015 for Alexander Whitley's Beheld. Before joining Candoco, Joel studied music at the University of Utah from 2008 to 2011, and from 2011 to 2014 he made numerous US and international tours with Brown-Rice Productions and the AXIS Dance Company. He has collaborated with choreographers such as Yvonne Rainer, Marc Brew, Victoria Marks and Graham Brown.

As a freelance artist, Joel created the duo "111" in collaboration with Eve Mutso, former director of the Scottish Ballet. The show "111" was highly appreciated by critics at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe festival.

About the Europe Beyond Access project

Europe Beyond Access (EBA) is the largest transnational art and disability program. The project is co-financed by the European Union's "Creative Europe" program.

The key partners of the consortium are the British Council (Great Britain), Onassis Cultural Center (Greece), Holland Dance Festival (Netherlands), Kampnagel (Germany), Per.Art (Serbia), Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), Oriente Occidente (Italy).

The Europe Beyond Access project supports female artists and artists with disabilities in overcoming a number of barriers in the performing arts sector and helps to make their careers international. The aim of the project activities is also to create and strengthen an international network of cultural organizations willing to present the works of female and male artists with disabilities and to attract them to European audiences.
