Movies directed by the „color whisperers", Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger – true epic visionaries, cinema shamans, visual magicians and the greatest romantics of the silver screen - will finally come to Warsaw cinemas during Timeless Film Festival Warsaw!
All of them will be shown as digitally reconstructed DCP copies, which will restore their former glory.
There is no other duo like this. The Englishman Michael Powell and the Hungarian Jew Emeric Pressburger, although different in temperament, created, in 1940s Britain, a series of timeless masterpieces. „The Archers” productions were jointly „written, produced and directed."
„As part of the retrospective, we will present 10 films without which the history of cinema would be incomplete, or at least less exciting. Each of the movies invites you on a different journey, each is a separate treasure – retrieved from oblivion, restored to its former glory. In modest war and post-war conditions The British duo „ Archers” managed to realize their dream of cinema as a machine of total creation that turns fantasies into tangible reality. It's high time to make the images from their works also began to appear in our dreams" – writes the curator of the retrospective, Sebastian Smoliński.
Although their achievements belong to the strict canon of world cinema, they are little known in Poland and their films are difficult to reach. Retrospective during the Timeless Film Festival Warsaw will introduce you to brilliant artists whose paintings continue to inspire subsequent generations of filmmakers.
