To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, his plays are retold by famous writers. The Shakespeare Project prepared by Wydawnictwo Dolnośląskie in collaboration with The Hogarth Press will launch in November 2015 with The Gap of Time – Jeanette Winterson’s reinvention of The Winter’s Tale. This major international project will see Shakespeare’s plays reimagined by some of today’s bestselling and most celebrated writers. The books will be true to the spirit of the original plays, while giving authors an exciting opportunity to do something new. Winterson’s version of The Winter’s Tale is a modern story showing us that whatever is lost shall be found.
A further seven novels will be published in the series: Howard Jacobson’s The Merchant of Venice, Anne Tyler’s The Taming of the Shrew, Margaret Atwood’s retelling of The Tempest, Tracy Chevalier’s Othello, Gillian Flynn’s Hamlet, Jo Nesbo’s Macbeth and Edward St Aubyn’s King Lear.
