We invite you to a Polish première of musical „Islander” that will be performed in Teatr Kameralny in Bydgoszcz on 6 March 2021 at 5 pm.

Islander is a contemporary folktale written for just two female voices and looping technology.

Eilidh stares out to sea and dreams of a new life beyond her lonely island. Myth and reality collide when the tide washes a mysterious stranger onto her beach, changing her life forever. Epic storytelling, intimately staged with a contemporary Scottish folk-inspired score.

The two-hander cast of Katarzyna Domalewska and Julia Witulska perform a whole host of characters, while weaving, building and layering their voices using looping technology to create an expansive, ethereal soundscape for the ears and imagination.

This musical was part of the Made In Scotland showcase, winning Musical Theatre Review’s Best Musical award before a transfer to London’s Southwark Playhouse, where the show was nominated for the Off West End Award for Best New Musical. The show has since been adapted for BBC Radio 4 and is in development for several international productions.

„Islander” was originally composed by Finn Anderson. Libretto was translated by Pola Sobaś-Mikołajczyk. Polish première is directed by Agnieszka Płoszajska.

The performance is aimed at young people, recommended from the age of 12.

British Council is a partner of this event.
