The performance MARIA is a triptych of the most important concepts: birth, love and death.
Maria, known by her relatives as Ria, is a 21st-century girl with impetus and unbridled curiosity, who enters adulthood and tries to find a place in it for herself and for the child she is expecting.
Will her new activity – virtual conversations with strangers who crave closeness, just as she does, even through the screen– help her in this? And is it possible to translate the rhythm of her heart and her inner world into the language of kilobytes?
The latest drama by the British dramatist Simon Stephens, the “social realist” known and performed all over the world, is an in-depth study of largely digitized modern life and the timeless myth of Mary embedded in a virtual world, of a young woman who, despite all inconveniences, defies the spirit of the times.
