Join us for an enriching teacher training event, Inclusive Practices in the English Language Classroom, designed for Polish and German secondary school English teachers.
This program aims to equip educators with tools, frameworks, and practical strategies to foster inclusive, socially-conscious learning environments that go beyond language proficiency. Through interactive sessions led by experienced educators, participants will explore ways to integrate social justice themes into their teaching and support students with diverse needs.
Event Highlights:
Plenary Talk: Teaching and Learning for Social Justice (60 minutes)
In this opening session, we’ll explore the EFL classroom as an ideal setting for Social Justice Education. Teachers will learn strategies to nurture empathy, social awareness, and critical thinking, empowering students to actively contribute to a more just world.
Workshop 1: A Social Justice Pedagogy Framework for the Language Classroom (90 minutes)
This workshop introduces a 5-step framework for social justice-focused lessons in the English classroom. Teachers will engage in activities and discussions on fostering empathy, open-mindedness, and critical thinking while managing sensitive topics and student reactions with confidence.
Workshop 2: Exploring Social Justice Issues Using Graphic Novels (90 minutes)
In this session, we’ll delve into graphic novels as powerful tools for developing visual literacy and social awareness. Participants will learn to use graphic novels to help students understand complex social justice issues from various perspectives.
Workshop 3: Inclusive School Practices for Students with Learning Difficulties & Disabilities (90 minutes)
This workshop offers insights into supporting students with learning difficulties and disabilities. Teachers will explore the impact of executive function challenges and learn techniques to create a supportive, thriving classroom environment for all students.
Workshop 4: Using Music Videos to Engage Higher Secondary Learners in Social Justice Themes (90 minutes)
In this session, teachers will explore how to use music videos as a multimodal resource to engage students in discussions on social justice. We’ll discuss techniques to interpret symbolic, cultural, and linguistic elements in music videos that resonate with today’s learners.
