The British Council invites you to The English Effect exhibition which promotes the English language and the benefits resulting from it.

The English language is critical for building positive cross-cultural relationships between people and nations. English language skills provide life-changing opportunities and access to information, support international development and promote communications and understanding around the world.

This exhibition explores the English language in the world today.

Explore this space to discover The English Effect in two areas:

1. Changing lives

English has the power to change lives. For people that do not speak English as a first language, learning English can be seen as a passport to greater educational and career opportunities. Find out here what English means to different people all over the world.

2. A global language

English has borrowed words from many different languages. What can this tell us about the UK's cultural and historical links to other nations? How many English words have their roots in other languages?

Teachers coming to the exhibition will receive education packages with British Council materials that can be used during classes.

All visitors will have a chance to participate in a competition and win a one semester English course at the British Council. To take part in this competition you need to answer the questions „Why is the English language important in today’s world? Why is it important to you?” and place your answers in an urn at the exhibition. You will find tips at The English Effect.
