Citizen-powered Urban Commons – conference
Open Jazdów is a community managing public cultural, social and educational activities in Warsaw.
It is searching for a model of a sustainable co-management of the urban space, in the realm of a project Community Management Model for Jazdów Settlement supported by the European Cultural Foundation. For this purpose different entities were researched, e.g. allotment gardens, housing co-operatives, municipal autonomies (Holzmarkt and ExRotaPrint in Berlin, Darwin Eco-system in Bordeaux) and public programs.
Analysed issues are related to the structure of decision-making (internal and external), the introduction of the principles in the planning, financing, design and the objectives of a sustainable development.
As a result, the researched model could be implemented as a prototype within Jazdów community. The long-term goal, however, is to develop common solutions for the urban space to become a cooperation of the residents, research centres, public administration and social economy entities.
The conference in Warsaw will be a presentation of the management model and a discussion of its strengths and weaknesses, as well as a presentation of other European good practices.
A publication summarizing the conclusions of the conference will be prepared by the end of 2016.
The event will be open to the public.
