The legendary choreographer Akram Khan will present his cult production in Gdańsk.
The Gdańsk audience will see for the first time the performance Chotto Desh – the work of one of the most valued contemporary choreographers, Akram Khan.
Chotto Desh is a new interpretation of Khan's famous solo show DESH, for which he received the Laurence Olivier Award in 2012 and many other accolades around the world. The show combines personal memories and myths, juxtaposing two worlds - Britain and Bangladesh. The protagonist, a boy growing up between two cultures, searches for his identity through dance and animation. Themes such as the clash of generations and the discovery of cultural roots are expressed in every movement of the dancers, light and sound.
The stage magic of Chotto Desh is created by an outstanding team of artists. The visual design is by Timmy Yip, winner of an Oscar for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The set design combines fairytale forests with cityscapes, creating a unique animated world. Music by Jocelyn Pook and lighting design by Michael Hulls complement this extraordinary story, blurring the lines between reality and imagination.
The show has been critically acclaimed worldwide. The Telegraph calls it “transcendent”, highlighting the emotional depth of each scene. The Independent describes it as “mesmerising”, and The Wonderful World of Dance raves about its visual expression of the human soul. Chotto Desh is not just a dance performance – it is a universal story about finding oneself, appealing to children and adults alike.
